Two 'sword-bayonets' for sale.
The bottom is a 1849 Brunswick Enfield Short Sword Bayonet Antique. It is a Model 1848 Brunswick Short Sword-Bayonet manufactured by Enfield in 1849. The Brunswick rifle was a .704 caliber muzzle-loading percussion rifle manufactured for the British Army at the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield in the early 19th century. The Brunswick Rifle was used throughout the British Empire including most colonies and outposts and was standard issue during the Seven Years War and Crimean War. In fantastic condition but of course demonstrating a patina consistent with a bayonet 170 years old! Full makers marks, inventory markings and military proofing.
The top is an original Colonial Issue Nepalese Brunswick P1837 Brass Handle Sword Bayonet for use with the Nepalese model 1841 Brunswick smooth bore .704 caliber percussion musket rifle. The Brunswick were used with great success in Britain's expanding Colonial empire and they were manufactured by both the 'Royal Nepalese Armory' and the 'British East India Company'. This example was hand tooled over 150 years ago with an attractive spiral brass grip complete with "D" knuckle guard and hand forged beaten iron single edge sword blade with short back edge. Unfortunately there is a crack to the handle and the tip has corroded, though the spring works perfectly. This bayonet has no scabbard.
