Description:
The first Model 1865 Springfield Trapdoors are a somewhat rare rifle with only 5000 being manufactured. The lock is still very strong and holds both half and full cock. An old type-two leaf rear sight, two band, no rod with Springfield 1861 type lock but no US stamps. Features a blue finish with some bright flashes but basically soft patina. Bore is actually quite nice and bright/shiny with a little pitting a few inches from the muzzle. A faded ESA Civil War type cartouche is still present on left side. Stock has the usual marks but also has a little loss near the front of the rod channel and has an old repair at the wrist where it must have cracked in the past. There’s also an unusual “WLL” cartouche/stamp in front of the trigger guard. Please contact for any questions or additional photo requests.
