You may be aware of brands and sellers trading on (or ripping off) the names of iconic riflescopes.
On a basic level this is just the equivalent of a knock-off or the also-ran claret maker adding another T to the name of that first-growth Bordeaux.
But in riflescopes, the difference is not just truth and quality but the mechanical concepts that made those old brands iconic. The two concerned were the last in America and Germany to capitulate to the 1950s concept of ‘constantly centred reticles’ (one never did), and were thus the choice of many US military snipers and Australian professional shooters respectively. The modern offerings do NOT have the same mechanisms or lens quality and have little in common with the original ones.
There are knock-offs of modern scopes, of course, but they are imitating designs that are usually rubbish, anyway, so might be good value if you get
'em cheap enough ;)
Before you buy, read this book, the original and only one game to blow the whistle . . .
