Description:
Rifle is a 1941 Lithgow SMLE (Photo 1 & 2) with matching numbers on the Action, Bolt and Nosecap Bayonet Boss (Photo 3).
The markings on the butt (R MA 8/45) indicate that the woodwork was rebuilt & replaced at Lithgow in 1945 (Photo 4). The markings on the wood on the front of the rifle (SLAZ 42) indicate that this part was manufactured by Slazenger in 1942.
The wooden furniture has scratches & dints consistent with its outdoor use (Photos 1 & 4).
The rifle was fitted with Tasco 4x32 telescopic sights by a gunsmith in 1993 when it was used for recreational hunting. It has a smooth action & shoots accurately. It has not been used for competitions.
The rifle has not been used for 15 years.
