Description:
I have just come across this early British made SMLE No.1 Mk.1 rear sight. It features extremely fine "Old World" machining and design construction.
Primary elevation settings are made by moving the slider along the sight arm in 100 yard increments between 200 to 2,000 yards. The dual-opposing bone-inlayed press-buttons lock the slider in place at the desired setting. Finer elevation adjustments are made by turning the knurled winder knob located beneath the rear blade.
Windage adjustment is achieved by winding the knob located on the right side of the sight blade. The sight blade is vee-notched as is typical for these sights.
This sight is in extremely fine condition for its age (about 120 years old). It is mechanically perfect in function and has never been altered or abused.
The sight base is normally soldered onto the barrel and cross-pinned to properly fit it.
