Description:
Here are two (2) complete front volley sight units to suit your early "Long Tom" or SMLE No.1 Mk.1 .303 British service rifles. Commonly, these sights were wholly or partially removed by persons using these rifles for hunting. Of course these removed parts were almost always carelessly "lost".
These two (2) front volley sight units are wholly complete and fully functioning. One is marked "LES .... EFD" while the later is stamped "II .... EFD". The range increment markings differ markedly on both scale plates the "LES" plate being more widely spaced despite being made for the SMLE No.1 rifle as far as I'm aware (Presumably incremented for Mk.VI ammo?). The "II" plate is more tightly incremented, especially between 2,700 & 2,800 yards. This would indicate either it was marked for use with much flatter shooting ammo or the markings were overly optimistic and corrected at a later date perhaps(?). NB. My photos picture both sight arms set at 2,800 yards .... note the difference for yourself.
The "II" volley sight has seen more use and bears the scars of it, though it is still fully complete and functionable. My asking price for this unit is $235-00. (NB. This sight has since received a second cleaning/oiling as some tiny patches of grime were noticed when preparing these photos.)
The "LES" volley sight is in extremely fine condition for its age, hence its higher price. My asking price for this unit is $285-00.
