Description:
Sako S491 .223 Varmint/Target
This has the rare 26” fluted target barrel, these were sold alongside the standard varmint model, which has a 24” and thinner profile barrel. This was Sako’s first fluted barrel and it has a target crown. The S actions & bolts were much heavier/stronger than previous models, and lots of competition rifles were built on these S actions in the 90’s.
There are many other Sako innovations in these S range of Sako rifles, so a very good collector model and a shooter.
Very good condition overall, has minor scrapes, wear & tear from use. Bore is very good. Triggers on both varmint models are the same, and this one lets off at about 18ozs. Bolt face is perfect. Has been professionally bedded by Robert Tobler.
It likes the factory OSA/ADI 55gn Sierra Blitz King rounds. Haven't tried reloads. Typically, 5 shot groups: 10-12mm at 100m (approx. 0.4MOA), approx. 0.5MOA at 200m, and approx. 0.7MOA at 300m (wind comes into play at 300m). Sale includes several hundred OSA/ADI brass cases, once fired in this rifle (1.9kg - if you want to reload).
